About Pyro Paths

Pyro Paths was created to make pyrography more accessible, approachable, and inspiring for artists at every stage of their journey.

Whether you’re picking up a burner for the very first time or refining advanced techniques, Pyro Paths is built around the idea that learning happens best through community, encouragement, and hands-on practice. Our goal is to provide the guidance, projects, and support that help artists build confidence while developing their own creative voice.

Leading that journey are two accomplished artists with distinct styles, perspectives, and decades of combined experience.

Meet Basia Chmielowiec

Basia (Ba-Sha) is an artist, educator, author, and the owner of Wood Burn Corner. Since beginning her pyrography journey in 2010, she has become known for her intricate fine-line work, radial symmetry designs, and passion for helping others discover the creative freedom that art can provide.

A lifelong maker and self-taught artist, Basia works across a wide range of mediums, including pyrography, drawing, paper crafts, jewelry making, woodworking, photography, and digital art. Her work is heavily inspired by nature, patterns, texture, and the beauty found in repetition and symmetry.ff

As an educator, Basia has authored several books, including Presence, The Wood Burn Community Book of Templates: Radial Symmetry Edition, and Babcia’s Garden. Through her teaching, she encourages artists to experiment, explore, and develop their own creative style while building strong technical foundations.

Her commitment to sustainability is reflected throughout her work through the use of reclaimed materials, responsibly sourced wood, and support for environmental initiatives around the world.

Meet Zona Greig

Zona Greig is a multidisciplinary artist whose work combines pyrography, watercolor, and dimensional mixed media. Her artistic approach is rooted in the belief that every piece of wood carries its own story, history, and character.

Working primarily on natural wood surfaces, Zona embraces the grain, knots, and imperfections of each piece as collaborators in the creative process. Her work explores themes of transformation, connection, heritage, and storytelling, creating pieces that are both deeply personal and designed to become lasting parts of the spaces they inhabit.

Drawing inspiration from her Filipino, Irish, and American heritage, Zona’s art blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary techniques. Her work has been exhibited throughout North Carolina in museums, galleries, community spaces, and public exhibitions, bringing fine art into places where people naturally gather and connect.

Through Pyro Paths, Zona shares both the technical skills and artistic mindset that have shaped her creative practice, helping students understand not only how to burn wood, but how to create meaningful work that reflects their own stories and experiences.

Learn From Artists Who Love to Teach

At Pyro Paths, teaching is more than demonstrating techniques. It’s about helping artists develop confidence, solve creative challenges, and discover what makes their work uniquely their own.

Together, Basia and Zona bring complementary perspectives to the craft—combining precision and pattern, storytelling and design, technical skill and artistic expression. Through lessons, projects, templates, and community engagement, they are committed to helping every member continue growing as an artist.
